August 19, 2011 – Recap

Supporters and Friends of From the Dust: Thanks so much for the continued support of our ministry. As we catch our breath, cool off, and replenish our spirits and minds for the second half of our schedule for 2011, we hope that all is well with you and your families. We apologize for falling behind on our diaries during these busy times. Our communication approach has changed a bit. As…

March 19-20, 2011 – Hamilton – Bryan, TX

There are times when church “happens.” Worship is anointed and corporately the body unites and participates with a humble spirit. The result is encouragement, strengthening of relationships, accountability, call to action and increased faithfulness. The gathering and participation together in worship keeps us plugged in to His family and protects our personal fellowship with God. Our time together with the church that meets at the Hamilton Unit was anointed, uplifting,…

February 12, 2011 – Michael – Tennessee Colony, TX

We had the pleasure of conducting two services at the Michael Unit this weekend. Weather was great. Turnout was good. Witnessed 10 responses to the message. We would like to thank the correctional staff and volunteer chaplain for help with the transition in and out of the unit. Our lesson focuses on the story of Naaman from 2 Kings chapter 5. Here we find a man of position, popularity and…

January 29, 2011 – Coffield – Tennessee Colony, TX

The 2011 tour is off and running! I thought it might be fun to name this tour (we’ve never actually done this before) like the major touring artists do when they tour. A few names come to mind…”The Reason We Breathe Tour” or “Without Walls Tour” or “Salvation is Calling Tour” or “Presenting the Martindale’s Tour”…this is an inside joke!!! Anyway, if you are reading this and you have suggestions,…

Mar 28, 2009 – Limestone County – Groesbeck, TX

The Limestone County Unit houses a male population consisting of male offenders on the federal, state, and county level. This was our first time to visit this unit. Again the weather did not cooperate and we moved indoors to stay warm. Thanks go out to Brother Al Gibbons for getting us into this unit and coordinating events which included four services – three in Spanish and one in English. Needless to say, we were exhausted after four services but it was a “good” tired. Our good friend, James Guerra joined us and delivered his testimony with heartfelt conviction as always. He provided the connection between the Spanish and English languages to deliver God’s message resulting in approximately 120 responses.

Again, I am amazed at what God does through those who are obedient to His calling. He uses our music in ways we cannot comprehend. Isn’t it amazing how music speaks to us. Music is the universal language. In our day (as compared to the time of David), we’re especially aware of its misuse and the shameful lyrics that are so much a part of it. Good music, however, is a blessing and strengthens our soul. Although we do not sing in Spanish (maybe a phrase or two) or speak the language, music transcends the language barrier to connect us and bring us before the throne of our Lord. I am so glad there are anointed songwriters writing songs that worship leaders and musicians can perform knowing we all share the need to praise and worship. David, the ultimate biblical musician, must have experienced the same gratification when declaring God’s glory through his music. David writes: “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High”, Psalm 92:1, “My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul”, Psalm 108:1, and “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music”, Psalms 98:4. God doesn’t judge or voices, our pitch, our tune, our timing or our ability to make others happy with music that is intended for Him. It is an honor to play for Him and for that we are eternally grateful.
