Nothing better than playing outside when the weather is nice! Thank you Lord! We had another great service and trip to the Breckenridge area. The word of the day/trip was “compendium” which means, a short complete summery or list or collection of various items. Feel free to Tweet Yvette (@fromthedustpm) for a compendium of ways to work this word into your daily vocabulary. A special thanks to Chaplain Daws and the staff for making us so comfortable. And…we had a first! Thanks to the Chaplain, several of us were given the privilege of blowing the Shofar (ram’s horn) as a call to worship. Cool stuff! We had a total of 32 responses to the message today and an overall glorious time of worship.
Looking back on this time together and the worship experiences we share with all our brothers and sisters in Christ at the units, I realize we are all family. In Galatians 3:28, Paul emphasizes that all of the walls separating us socially are broken down when we are in Christ:
- Ethnicity – “neither Jew nor Greek”
- Socioeconomic status – “neither slave nor free”
- Gender – “neither male or female”
First-Century culture and the church were deeply divided and Paul stressed, “we are all one in Jesus Christ”. Christians have become children of God through faith, which means we are all in the same family. We are no longer divided by the areas mentioned above but have become brothers and sisters in God’s family. A symbol of our unity as a family is baptism. This ceremony helps the believer affirm the Lordship of Christ and his or her commitment to a new way of life. It is our promise to “put on Christ” not just in word but also in deed. It is our creed. We do this so that ALL may enjoy full membership in the body. If you haven’t been baptized to proclaim your faith then DO IT! The breaking down of traditional barriers wasn’t just a future hope. The early church worked to make it a reality.
It is our prayer as we gain momentum into year 10 of this prison ministry that you will continue to pray and give to support your brothers and sisters in white. Please support us in breaking down those walls of ethnicity, status and gender so that reconciliation can occur behind the bars of our prisons today.
