May 22, 2010 – Coffield – Tennessee Colony, TX
It was a beautiful weekend to be on the road. Our journey, as always, was interesting and full of surprises ranging from an unlocked trailer door, to a battery scare, to a speeding ticket. You just never know what is in store with this group. Sometimes I wonder what might happen next! It is always interesting. It is big fun serving with From The Dust.
A total of 570 attended services today with 10 decisions made to accept Christ. God is good! The church that meets at Coffield is a church full of compassion and promise. It has been our privilege to be on this journey with them for a number of years now. Mitchell is personally attached and dedicated to this unit through Kairos and has made many friends here. It is a joy to see the Christian fellowship he shares with these men.
James Guerra joined us and provided his testimony and delivered the message of hope. Even though it was not planned, HOPE seemed to be the theme woven throughout the entire service. I love the words of hope found in Jeremiah 29:11, “ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” These are words of comfort spoken to the Israelites living in exile. God’s plan promises they will be delivered, restored and even prosper despite their present situation and difficulties. He has specific plans for them. We may not be in the same situation as the Israelites were, but His word also tells us that He knows our hearts, our struggles, our difficulties, and our needs. He knows all! Even though we can’t see it or understand it, He has plans for us all.
Sometimes we feel lost and alone. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like we are a part of His plan. Our hope feels sabotaged and nonexistent. Sometimes we need to be rescued. Sometimes we need to rescue others. When Jesus came to earth, He came to rescue. In fact, the name Jesus means, “to rescue”. His plan to rescue is found in His word. Do you need to be rescued? Does the Lord need to work through you to rescue someone else?
The phrase, “sick and tired of being sick and tired,” was used several times this weekend to describe that feeling of desperation and hopelessness we all feel at different times during our lives. But, no matter how bad it is, Christians always cling to hope. A hope and strength that comes from our “rescuer”, our Jesus who endured it all that we might live forever. He gives us the strength and endurance to finish the race. If you’ve tried other things to fill the hole in your heart and you’re tired of trying…try Jesus. He is ready to rescue.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20
