June 12, 2010 – Johnston – Winnsboro, TX

Well, we’ve reached the mid-way point in year 10. To me, it is just as exciting and rewarding as it was the first time we served at the Havins Unit so many years ago. I guess you could say we serendipitously (the word of the week) found ourselves in a place where He needs us to serve. The rest is history and all glory goes to Him.

May 22, 2010 – Coffield – Tennessee Colony, TX

It was a beautiful weekend to be on the road. Our journey, as always, was interesting and full of surprises ranging from an unlocked trailer door, to a battery scare, to a speeding ticket. You just never know what is in store with this group. Sometimes I wonder what might happen next! It is always interesting. It is big fun serving with From The Dust.

May 1-2, 2010 – Hamilton – College Station, TX

It’s my turn to come up with the new word(s) of the week…Hirundo Rustica. Sounds like a delicious Italian dish on the menu at your favorite Italian restaurant…or maybe not. This is the name for 1 of 636 recognized (Texas Ornithological Society) bird species found in Texas.

Apr 10-11, 2010 – Boyd – Teague, TX

A special “Thanks” goes out to all at the Boyd Unit for a great visit. The staff and CO’s were extremely kind and helpful. Approximately 265 attended services on Saturday and another 175 on Sunday. We witnessed 18 responses to the Lord’s message.

The Polunsky Unit is another one of our favorite places to go. No two ways about it…this is a tough place. Death Row is here and you can’t help but feel heaviness on the inside. The “human condition” can be defined as the experience of being and existing as well as the feelings and emotions associated with that existence.

Unfortunately, cancellations, delays, and disruptions are a reality in life and when serving in a prison ministry. In ministry, these are typically out of our control and can occur for a number of reasons. It could be anything from an administrative error to the weather to a prison lockdown due to disciplinary issues.

The weather finally cooperates! It was a near perfect day to play on the slab. It is great to be back at the Sayle Unit. This is one of the best-run units and volunteers are made to feel very welcome.

Mar 28, 2009 – Limestone County – Groesbeck, TX

The Limestone County Unit houses a male population consisting of male offenders on the federal, state, and county level. This was our first time to visit this unit. Again the weather did not cooperate and we moved indoors to stay warm.
